WELCOME TO MY WEBSITE!
I love to create semi-representational landscape and flower paintings in oil, acrylic and watercolour that use expressive colour and light ... sprinkled with a touch of whimsy.
I consider myself a semi-representational contemporary art painter. What that means is....if I paint a tree...you'll know its a tree...it may be a purple and yellow tree but you'll know its a tree! I don't see myself ever competing with a camera and am far more interested in evoking a mood....often light-hearted and whimsical.
I have always been an admirer of the brushstrokes and techniques of Chinese/Japanese art and will often incorporate some line work influenced by those cultures.
Growing up on the Canadian prairies and having a family cottage in Lake of the Woods, Ontario, has provided me with landscapes that offer a kaleidoscope of colours and amazing light to provide never ending inspiration. This home turf coupled by some pretty amazing world trips have become my painting catalogue. I spend about 4 months a year painting in my She-Shed on Mackie's Island near Kenora. It's my favorite place in the world...I have posted a few pics below.
