Inspired by a photograph I took in Johannesburg, the work captures a young boy cycling beneath a vivid tunnel of purple jacaranda blossoms. I removed the cars and other manmade distractions to let the road settle into stillness, allowing the trees to take over the scene. The boy remains as a quiet human presence, giving scale to the sweeping canopy and the immense beauty of this fleeting spring moment. For me, the painting is about wonder, memory, and the way a place can stay with you long after you’ve left it.
